THE REGGIO EMILIA APPROACH: FIRST ENCOUNTERS

Information about Reggio Emilia:
The Reggio Emilia approach is an educational philosophy focused on preschool and primary education. It is a pedagogy described as student-centered and constructivist that uses self-directed, experiential learning in relationship-driven environments. The program is based on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community through exploration and discovery through a self-guided curriculum. At its core is an assumption that children form their own personality during early years of development and are endowed with "a hundred languages" through which they can express their ideas. The aim of the Reggio approach is to teach how to use these symbolic languages (e.g., painting, sculpting, drama) in everyday life. It was developed after World War II by pedagogist Loris Malaguzzi and parents in the villages around Reggio Emilia, Italy, and derives its name from the city.

Day 1, Saturday, April 13: Depart from JFK to Bologna.
Day 2, Sunday, April 14:
- Arrive in Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport
- Transfer to Reggio Emilia, around 50 minutes
- Dinner: Welcome Dinner Included
- Overnight stay in Reggio Emilia.
Day 3, Monday, April 15:
- Breakfast: At the hotel
- Conference Day 1: 10:00am to 1:00pm: Presentation on the pedagogical, historical, and cultural values of the Reggio Emilia Approach.
- Lunch: Provided at the conference.
- 3 pm – 4 pm: Introduction and guided tour to the exhibitions and atelier at the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre.
- Overnight stay in Reggio Emilia.
- Evening: Optional activities or free time to explore local culture.
Day 4, Tuesday, April 16:
- Breakfast: At the hotel
- Conference Day 2: 10:00am to 12:00pm: Atelier workshop with the Atelieristas.
- Lunch: Provided at the conference.
- 2:00pm to 4:00pm: Question Time with pedagogista.
- 4:30 to 6:30pm: A walking tour of the city with your tour guide.
- Overnight stay in Reggio Emilia.
Day 5, Wednesday, April 17:
- Breakfast: At the hotel
- Conference Day 3: Continue the conference (Specific conference sessions/topics).
- Lunch: Provided at the conference.
- 4:30 to 6:30pm: A walking tour of the city with your tour guide.
- Evening: Optional cultural or culinary excursions.
- Overnight stay in Reggio Emilia.
Day 6, Thursday, April 18:
- Breakfast: At the hotel
- Conference Day 4: Continue the conference (Specific conference sessions/topics).
- Lunch: Provided at the conference.
- Evening: Optional visit to nearby landmarks or free time.
- Overnight stay in Reggio Emilia.
Day 7, Friday, April 19:
- Breakfast: At the hotel
- Conference Day 5: Continue the conference (Specific conference sessions/topics).
- Lunch: Provided at the conference.
- Dinner: Farewell Dinner Included
- Overnight stay in Reggio Emilia.
Day 8, Saturday, April 20:
- Breakfast: At the hotel
- Morning: Optional feedback session on the trip and program.
- Transfer to the airport by private coach for departure.

Cost includes:
- The cost of the Reggio Emilia Approach which is 1400 Euro each person
- International flight from JFK Airport

- 36 hours of professional development: theoretical sessions of lectures and presentation of projects and experiences with teachers, pedagogistas and atelieristas of the Infant-toddler Centres and Preschools of Reggio Emilia

- Bus transportation when required by the programme
- English-italian consecutive translation when required by the programme

Cost doesn’t cover:
- Any meals or drinks other than those mentioned in the program.

Cost Structure:
- Double room occupancy: $4,900 per person.
- Single room occupancy: $5,400 per person.
Payment Schedule (alternate schedule may be negotiated by request of the participant)
- - Deposit: $400 (non-refundable)
- $1500 due by February 1, 2024
- $1500 due by March 1, 2024
- $1500 due by April 1, 2024
Room Upgrade Options (subject to availability):
- Single occupancy upgrade: Additional $500 due by February 15, 2024.
Cancellation & Refund Policy:
- Cancellations must be in writing.
- Cancel 90 days before departure: 60% refund (excluding the non-refundable deposit).
- Cancel between 90 and 60 days before departure: 50% refund (excluding the non-refundable deposit).
- Cancellations within 60 days of departure: No refund.
- Note: The initial deposit is non-refundable in all circumstances.
*There may exist minor changes in program timetables and venues.
